We are just back from working on an interior design scheme for a ski chalet in the French Alps and the festive atmosphere is starting to heat up! We love this time of year and thought we’d like to offer you a few tips on how to make the very most of your alpine chalet interior through clever use of lighting and to share with you some of our favourite alpine accessories through our new diffusion line: The Alpine Edition.
Whether you have a luxury cabin in Aspen or a super sleek chalet in Courchevel, it is important to consider the lighting at the outset. With the trend towards creating open- plan living areas, the opportunities to design mood lighting, creating zones and setting the scene at the touch of a button, are very much alive and kicking. The results can be stunning with layered effects combined with the very best in decorative lighting and textural accessories. Finding the right fittings can be key, said Suzy. “We source our decorative lighting from a handful of carefully curated artisans including lanterns from French 1920s pensions, beautifully restored to their former glory and on- trend small rock crystal wall lights which are beyond elegant.”
She continued: “We try to keep it as simple as possible so the day-to-day operation is practical and can be switched on and off with ease, but we do need to consider the property as a whole so that each area talks to each other. As well as lighting designers we are also interior and spatial designers, which enables us to understand how all the elements are going to work together including layouts, colour palette, finishes and most importantly, we work closely with M&E and AV consultants to make sure it works as a whole and is seamless from the start. Internally and externally. Why look through a mirrored black window at night when you can see the effects of intelligently positioned light fittings creating your very own outside-inside area and visually extending your perceived space? Imagine looking out at your carefully positioned illuminated tree that sparkles in the sunlight during the day and twinkles while catching the snowflakes at dusk. It’s all about getting in the zone and soaking up the atmosphere, day and night. After a day of heli skiing, soak your weary bones in the hot tub and find an intimate fireside tea presented on the finest Jaune de Chrome porcelain. We have curated the very best in fur throws, cushions, cashmere accessories and candles.
